I used to sell on Shopify and use many apps. When considering using Stripe as a processor, I wanted to see what they had to offer. And whether anything they offered was worth it.

This guide will present my findings.

Keep reading and find an app.

Top 7 Stripe Apps to Consider for Your Business

  1. Chargeback: Best for dispute prevention
  2. Signifyd: Best for chargeback management
  3. Churnkey: Best for churn protection
  4. PromoteKit: Best for creating affiliate programs
  5. Revenew: Best for understanding finances
  6. Postmark: Best for email campaigns
  7. ChartMogul: Best for in-Stripe analytics

I’ll explain the use cases and then explain which apps are best and why.

But first. You likely want to know why I chose these apps.

Why Did We Choose These Apps?

I went through each Stripe app and thought of the following factors when deciding what to add to this guide:

  • Usefulness: Whether it provides actual benefits.
  • Whether it helps: If it earns or saves money.
  • Time saver: Whether the app saves time.
  • Trust: If it’s from a trustworthy brand.

I won’t mention pricing for most of these apps. Since it can change at a moment’s notice.

I don’t want to risk providing the wrong information.

With some apps, there are better options that aren’t a part of Stripe.

For instance, Postmark costs money.

If you’re after free email marketing campaigns for small businesses, consider MailerLite or Mailchimp.

Otherwise:

Let’s get in the trenches and find an app.

1. Chargeback: Best for Chargeback Prevention

Chargeback is a fantastic app for SaaS businesses needing a way to prevent disputes.

If you’re not familiar with what a chargeback (AKA dispute) is, you need to learn.

Businesses lose more than $25 a year from friendly fraud alone — one chargeback type.

Anyway:

There are a million ways to prevent chargebacks. Each applies to different industries.

For instance, if you’re in e-commerce, you’ll want to ensure the shipped product reaches the customer. Otherwise, they’ll claim they never received it and dispute the transaction.

That doesn’t apply to SaaS businesses. Because you’re not shipping anything.

That’s where chargeback alerts come in.

If a customer brings up an issue with their card network or bank, said issuer will send you a notification.

From there, you refund the order.

There are 3 main types of alerts:

  1. RDR (Visa)
  2. CDRN
  3. Ethoca (other card networks)

RDR performs automatic refunds. CDRN and Ethoca usually don’t.

Chargeback will automatically distribute refunds through Ethoca and CDRN alerts. Giving you more free time to expand.

The Stripe app makes it simple to do that through the platform.

It also allows you to see the dispute’s source (e.g., bank versus card). Useful for tracking problematic payment gateways.

We’ve also helped businesses reduce chargebacks by up to 91%.

It’s critical to keep these rates down. Otherwise, you could face the following:

  • Increased chargeback fees
  • Review fines; and
  • Suspension of your ability to process payments

You’re likely reading it and thinking, “Wait, the writer’s promoting the product of the site he’s writing for.”

As someone who used to sell online, this is a solution that I wish I could have had.

Sure, you could go with a solution like Chargeflow, but they charge more for their alerts.

Or download the app here.

You’ll also want to pair these alerts with a chargeback management solution.

Here’s a cool pick.

Summary: Chargeback sends alerts to sellers. Allowing them to prevent disputes.

2. Signifyd: Best for Chargeback Management

Source: Stripe

Signifyd’s app is best for folks wanting management through their Stripe dashboard.

The app allows Signifyd customers to track chargeback claims without leaving Stripe.

This streamlines operations. Removing the need to switch between multiple tools.

Teams can:

  • View individual chargeback cases
  • Check their status’
  • Receive real-time updates on reimbursement progress

This is great for businesses that deal with high volumes of chargebacks.

Having quick access to data allows you to respond within chargeback time limits.

Increasing the chance you’ll win.

One of the app’s main features is its integration with Stripe (duh). This provides a consolidated view of chargeback cases.

This allows merchants to identify patterns in chargebacks. From there, you can take steps to reduce future disputes.

By spotting recurring issues, you can address underlying problems contributing to chargebacks. Such as shipping errors or unclear product descriptions.

Another feature is the ability to watch for different types of chargebacks. Such as those related to friendly fraud or consumer abuse.

This distinguishes between different kinds of disputes and helps you tailor responses.

Let’s say you spot a pattern of friendly fraud. You can put measures in place to educate customers or adjust transaction policies.

However:

The Signifyd app for Stripe focuses on dispute tracking and insights.

It does not offer the full range of fraud prevention tools available in Signifyd’s standalone platform.

The full solution includes:

  • Advanced fraud detection
  • Transaction risk assessment; and
  • 100% financial guarantee on approved orders

These features provide broader protection against fraud but need management outside Stripe.

Find the Signifyd app here.

Maybe you’re after churn prevention…

Summary: It’s ideal for integrated chargeback management. It simplifies tracking and provides actionable insights. But lacks the comprehensive fraud prevention features of the full Signifyd platform.

3. Churnkey: Best for Churn Prevention

Churnkey is best for businesses focused on reducing customer churn.

This Stripe app offers intelligent cancellation flows and targeted offers.

And it claims to have reduced voluntary churn by up to 54%.

You can embed personalized options within your cancellation process. Turning potential cancellations into revenue opportunities.

It offers neat features such as:

  • A/B testing: Test variations of your pricing or marketing strategies.
  • Advanced segmentation: Divide buyers into groups based on various criteria.
  • Dynamic discounts: Adjust discounts based on shopper behavior.
  • Payment retries: Retry failed payments at optimal times.
  • Win-back efforts: Re-engage users who have missed payments by offering incentives.

One of Churnkey's strengths is its failed payment recovery system.

This feature addresses payment issues that often result in lost customers.

The system includes:

  • Segmented campaigns

  • Payment retries optimized by machine learning

This ensures your business stays current and relevant. Recovering customers who might otherwise slip away due to failed transactions.

I explained what each feature does.

Because you’re basically turning affiliate marketers into your sales staff.

Here’s where to find PromoteKit’s app.

Here’s a candidate.

For businesses, the app simplifies complex financial processes.

It automates these aspects:

This helps businesses understand financial performance and identify trends easier.

Reconciliation involves using software to compare and match financial transactions against corresponding records. Such as bank statements or invoices.

With these features, platforms can track margins on each transaction. This helps in understanding how processing fees affect profitability.

These features help introduce the following:

  • New revenue streams;
  • Increase operational efficiency; and
  • Limit platform exposure

The information this app provides isn’t fantastic for email correspondence. The next one is, though.

Summary:

It helps optimize profitability by providing statistics.
